US President-elect vows to keep his children out of his upcoming administration
US President-elect Donald Trump recently stated he would not appoint any family members to his next administration. Trump made this vow during an interview with Fox News after his election win over Kamala Harris.
Family Members in His First Term
In his first term, Trump’s family played key roles in his administration. His daughter, Ivanka Trump, and her husband, Jared Kushner, both served as senior advisers. Their positions stirred controversy, with critics accusing Trump of nepotism. Both Ivanka and Jared played a part in shaping major policy decisions during his presidency.
Despite their involvement, Ivanka stepped away from politics in 2022. She announced she would focus on her family rather than public life. “While I will always love and support my father, I will do so outside the political arena,” Ivanka said.
The Decision to Keep Family Out
Trump explained his decision by saying, “That’s enough for the family! It’s too painful for the family, my family has been through hell.” He indicated the strain public scrutiny and legal troubles have caused his loved ones. Trump faces multiple legal battles, including a civil suit from the New York attorney general. He is also under investigation for the recovery of classified documents from his Mar-a-Lago estate.
His sons, Eric and Donald Jr., are also part of the legal issues involving the Trump family business. These challenges likely influenced Trump’s decision to shield his family from further scrutiny.
Shifting to Outside Allies
Trump also spoke about appointing other influential figures to his administration. He mentioned offering roles to Elon Musk and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Trump expressed his desire to build a government based on merit, not family connections.
This marks a shift from his first term, where family members held significant roles. Moving forward, Trump seems focused on distancing his administration from family ties, favoring experienced outsiders instead.
