Ilham Aliyev Responds to Criticism at COP29 Climate Talks

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev strongly defended his country’s use of natural resources at the COP29 climate conference in Baku. He called oil, gas, and other natural resources “gifts from God” and rejected criticism of Azerbaijan’s reliance on them. Aliyev accused critics of waging a “well-coordinated campaign of slander and blackmail” against his country.

Rejecting Criticism of Natural Resources

Aliyev rejected any judgment of Azerbaijan based on its natural resources. He argued that no country should face blame for possessing oil, gas, or minerals. “Quote me that I said this is a gift from God,” he said, emphasizing that nations should not apologize for having valuable resources. He also pointed out that the global market depends on these resources.

The Necessity of Natural Resources

The president stressed that the world needs natural resources. He argued that countries should not be blamed for meeting the global demand for oil, gas, and minerals. “People need them,” Aliyev said, noting the essential role these resources play in sustaining economies. He pointed out that the market depends on these resources to function properly.

Azerbaijan’s Role in Global Energy

Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s important role in the global energy market. The country’s oil and gas reserves are crucial to energy security in both Europe and Asia. He rejected any idea that Azerbaijan should feel guilty for utilizing its resources to meet the world’s energy needs. Aliyev reaffirmed that the country will continue contributing to global energy production.

Standing by Natural Resource Use

Aliyev argued that nations rich in natural resources should not face condemnation for using them. He pointed out that these resources drive global economic growth and meet energy demands. He stated that Azerbaijan’s natural wealth should be seen as a blessing, not a burden.

President Ilham Aliyev firmly defended Azerbaijan’s use of natural resources at COP29. He called them “gifts from God” and insisted that countries should not be blamed for utilizing them. Aliyev’s comments reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s position as an essential player in the global energy market.
