Former Wright-Patterson Commander to Face General Court-Martial

Col. Christopher Meeker Charged with Multiple Violations of Military Code

Overview of the Case

Col. Christopher B. Meeker, a former commander at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, is set to face a general court-martial. Meeker has been charged with three violations under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). The charges include willful disobedience of a superior officer and misconduct involving extramarital sexual conduct and fraternization.

The case follows Meeker’s removal from command of the 88th Air Base Wing in December 2023. His dismissal was ordered by Lt. Gen. Donna Shipton due to a “loss of confidence in his ability to lead.”

Specific Charges Under UCMJ

The charges against Meeker involve serious breaches of military conduct:

  1. Willful Disobedience: Meeker faces one charge under Article 90, which alleges that he willfully disobeyed a superior commissioned officer.
  2. Extramarital Misconduct: Under Article 134, he is charged with two specifications, including extramarital sexual conduct and fraternization. These charges reflect violations of the military’s code of ethical and professional behavior.

Meeker waived his right to an Article 32 Preliminary Hearing, accelerating the referral of charges to a general court-martial.

Leadership and Transfer of Authority

Meeker assumed command of the 88th Air Base Wing in July 2022. His tenure ended abruptly in December 2023 when Lt. Gen. Shipton removed him from his position. Given her potential involvement as a material witness, Shipton transferred the case to another convening authority.

Maj. Gen. Charles Bolton, commander of the 18th Air Force at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, now oversees the case. This move ensures impartiality in the proceedings and aligns with standard military judicial practices.

Upcoming Trial Details

The general court-martial for Meeker is scheduled to begin on June 9, 2025, at Scott Air Force Base. This trial will examine evidence and determine accountability for the alleged violations. The decision to hold the trial at a different base underscores the military’s commitment to a fair process.

Broader Implications

This case highlights the military’s emphasis on upholding discipline and ethical conduct among its ranks. Leaders are held to stringent standards, reflecting their critical role in maintaining trust and operational integrity. Meeker’s trial will serve as a reminder of the consequences of failing to meet these expectations.

With charges of this nature, the Air Force demonstrates its commitment to addressing misconduct, regardless of rank. The upcoming trial will shed further light on the details of the case and its impact on military leadership.
