Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant are set to remain in the underground bunker at the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv over the weekend. This decision follows recent discussions regarding Israel’s military response to heightened threats, particularly from Iran, which has launched numerous ballistic missiles aimed at Israel.
The underground facility, known as the National Emergency Management Center (NEMC), was designed to provide a secure command center during crises, including missile attacks. Although the bunker has been prepared for such situations, officials have indicated that the current threat level has not necessitated its activation until now. However, the ongoing conflict and perceived threats may have influenced this choice.
Sources close to Netanyahu have reported that the Prime Minister has been changing residences frequently for security reasons since the onset of the war, including staying in various locations across Jerusalem. This latest move to stay at the Kirya may also reflect concerns about threats against Israeli leadership, particularly from Iranian and Hezbollah forces.
